What are the steps to create a roof?

There are three types of roof you can create with VisualARQ when you run the Roof command (vaRoof): Hip, Gable and Shed roof.

Hip Roof:

  1. Pick a Curve that will be used as the roof boundary. This curve must be flat and closed.
  2. Select the roof type Hip from the Command line.
  3. Enter the roof Slope angle.
  4. Enter the roof Thickness.

Gable Roof:

  1. Pick a Curve that will be used as the roof boundary. This curve must be flat and closed.
  2. Select the roof type Gable from the Command line.
  3. Enter the roof Slope angle.
  4. Enter the roof Thickness.
  5. Define the axis direction of the gable’s roof ridge.

Shed Roof:

  1. Pick a Curve that will be used as the roof boundary. This curve must be flat and closed.
  2. Select the roof type Shed from the Command line.
  3. Type an angle for the roof slope.
  4. Type the roof thickness.
  5. Select the roof axis start and end points. These points will define the shed roof bottom plane height.

You can edit the roof outline moving the roof control points and adding or subtracting more outlines with the “_VARoofAdd” and “_VARoofSubtract” commands.

You can also edit the slope angle with “_VARoofChangeSlopeAngle” command, or from  the VisualARQ properties section, in Rhino properties dialog box.

There are other options available for editing VisualARQ roofs in the VisualARQ properties section, in Rhino properties dialog box:

  • Change the roof type: Shed, Gable and Hip.
  • Change the roof edge cut: Flat, Plumb and Square.
  • Change the axis orientation (only for Gable roofs).
  • Change the top cutting height (only for Hip roofs).
